BPW Belgium choose to take action for Equal Pay Day on March 26 in Ghent.
Everybody was invited into the meeting room where Christine Dujardin, immediate past president of BPW Belgium cordially welcomed the group. Followed by a power point presentation given by Myriam Martens, president BPW Belgium. Myriam used the presentation prepared by BPW Europe and added slides concerning EPD history, overall goals and specific concerns of BPW.
Céline Frémault is politically active and a gifted speaker. She warned the women about choosing for part-time work to easily. In a young marriage it seems such a good solution to work part-time and find a better balance between work and family. But to often we forget that not only our income reduces but also our career gets a slow down - no promotions, no raise in pay - and last but not least, our pension shrimps to a part of what our male colleagues will get when they retire.
In Belgium we have a high divorce percentage. So many women end up alone with low remuneration. Céline presents solutions, worked out in her book: ?Egaux? Pièges et réussites de l?égalité hommes-femmes? As last speaker we were proud to have the president of the Senate: Ms Sabine de Béthune. As seasoned politician she could tell us her experiences on the topic as well as many anecdotes and hard facts and figures.
How to deal with the gender gap?
Since we are convinced that the world will be a better place when women will have an equal position on the labour market, in the boards of directors and in general as decision makers in our society, our slogan is ”BPW for a Better Parity in the World” BPW 4 BPW After the different presentations all the ladies joined and showed their 'red purse', specially made for this occasion with the BPW logo. The red purse stands for the red figures due to less income.

- making the remuneration system more transparent
- motivating girls for other professions than the typical ones (nurse, teacher etc)
- restructuring of the job classification system to eliminate the hidden mechanisms that are

- employer and employee organizations have an important task
